An informal committee, comprising members of the local cycling fraternity, meet in 2008 to discuss and evaluate the need and desire to provide a national standard indoor velodrome with multi purpose functionality in the Ashburton District.
The committee have observed the continuing development and popularity of all forms of cycling in the region over recent years, which is consistent with trends nationally. Local experience supports the committee’s view that cycling is becoming a chosen recreational pursuit for health and social reasons for the general public.
Having gauged preliminary support for the proposed indoor velodrome and multi-purpose facility the initial committee recommended furthering the project in a formal manner.
The Mid Canterbury Multi-Sports Velodrome Trust was established and have pleasure in presenting to you our proposal to build an indoor velodrome in the Ashburton district.
